Molly’s Song made her Day

AFTER more than seven years of dedication and $40,000 in donations, Molly’s Song has finally reached its final verse with the charity’s founder moving south.
Local Libby Day founded Molly’s Song in honour of her mother, Molly, who passed away from Alzheimers, and has worked tirelessly with a dedicated band of volunteers to raise awareness and more than $40,000 for the Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation.
In a letter to her supporters, Libby said she wanted to share a “huge thank you from the bottom of my heart” and thanked the Noosa community for their enduring support.
“After seven years of raising funds … I am now going on a ‘fund-raising sabbatical’,” she said.
“Greg and I are on the move. A tree change from the Sunny Coast to Victoria, closer to my dad and family.”
Libby said she wanted to thank all her “dear friends” who have helped with each event, as well as local community groups who have embraced the cause, and local businesses who have donated to the cause throughout the charity’s life.
Libby said one of the most memorable fund-raisers was when she and a number of supporters took part in the Ride to Remember, cycling from Melbourne to Canberra in 2014.
“A lifetime achievement that will bond us together forever,” she said.
The success of Molly’s Song has not only been a testament to Libby’s dedication, compassion and determination, but also to the enduring support of the Noosa community.
In her letter to supporters, Libby listed a wide range of local community members and groups who embraced and elevated the charity throughout the years from the team at Design Central who provided graphics for advertising to the local publications that helped raise the charity’s profile and the local ABC Radio who helped Libby share her message.
“Every year they (ABC Radio) have welcomed me to the studios for an interview to help spread the word, making an enormous difference,” she said.
After all the years and effort, Libby said there seemed to be “more and more light at the end of the tunnel”.
“Alzheimer’s Australia Dementia Research Foundation is definitely helping to find a cure and improve the lives of those already suffering from dementia and their carers,” she said.
Libby signed off saying it’s not goodbye, but just “see you round the ridges”.
“My beautiful mum, Molly, who I think of everyday with a full heart and such fondness and gratitude, would have been very proud of you all,” Libby said.
“Let’s hope there will soon come a time when all the much loved mums and dads can continue to sing, dance, and laugh to their hearts content.”
