Road promise to pay for election

THE LNP has this week promised $2 million towards sealing a popular tourist road if it is elected in the coming election.
Noosa MP Glen Elmes joined LNP federal candidate for Wide Bay Llew O’Brien and Gympie MP Tony Perrett at Kin Kin on Sunday 12 June where Minister for Transport Darren Chester announced that an elected Turnbull government would provide $2 million toward seeling the link road between Noosa and Rainbow Beach.
Mr Chester labelled the potential project a “win” for tourists, tourism operators the economy and environment and said there were a host of benefits for locals and tourists should the road be sealed.
“The completion of the road will allow tourists, particularly slow moving vehicles such as caravans and RVs, to get off the Bruce Highway at Caloundra and not have to return until Maryborough, which means more tourism dollars are spent in the local communities along that stretch,” he said.
“The project also drives slower moving traffic off the Bruce Highway which is good news for other road users and also reduces the need for local traffic to use the beach as the major thoroughfare between Noosa and Rainbow Beach, which is good for the environment.”
Mr Chester said locals and visitors will be able to enjoy all aspects of the coastline more easily without having to own a four wheel drive.
Mr Elmes said the completion of the Counter Road would be one of the most significant infrastructure achievements for the Sunshine and Cooloola Coasts.
