NESTLED at the base of Mount Cooroy is a town bustling with business, community spirit and some of the friendliest people you will meet.
Cooroy has been dubbed the Heart of the Hinterland and it’s not hard to see why.
Steeped in local history, the town was first explored by timber-cutters as early as 1863, which formed the town’s main industry when two sawmills were established.
In 1891, the Cooroy railway station was opened and the Butter Factory began operating in 1915.
You can still visit the Butter Factory, which houses local artist exhibitions, as well as the lower and upper sawmill sites.
Plaques offering snippets of the town’s history are dotted along the buildings on the main street, but the locals are more than happy to fill you in on the proud history of the Heart of the Hinterland.
If it’s been a while since you have visited Cooroy, then now is the perfect time to read up on the unique and varied businesses and services available, then pop on over to enjoy a cuppa and a chat with a local.
