Local police will be out in force on Noosa North Shore this Easter holiday in a bid to curb drink driving and speeding on the beach.
Noosa Heads officer in charge Senior Sergeant Steve McReight said last weekend’s blitz on the beach saw 664 random breath tests conducted and 13 tickets issued for speeding.
He said it was important for drivers to stay under the speed limit, especially while driving on the beach.
“What first timers and tourists don’t realise is the beach changes every time the water recedes,” he said.
“So they’re not driving on the same surface as before. Drivers need to take extra care to ensure safe driving.”
Snr Sgt McReight also warned there had been an increase in vehicle break-and-enters around local beaches on weekends.
“We’re asking everyone to make sure they lock their car,” he said.
