Morale boost for champions

COOROY BOWLS
Well it apprears that T. Charles, D. Allisone, R. Alford and B. Cunnington had a real morale boost by their win in last week’s semi-finals in the Men’s Championships Fours because they came home the victors after another exciting match played on Sunday morning against B. Mahoney, G. Green. B. Coventry and S. Hands.
In the Ladies Championship Fours, Y. Pattinson, B. Winkler, M. Dawson and S. French proved to be too strong against J. Ainscough, L. Hateley-James, N. Duffield and M. Coventry winning by eights points overall.
J. McKechnie and D. Horrox had a convincing win in the monthly Madill’s Challenge. R. Butler and B. Mahoney were runners-up.
Rain stopped play on Thursday night in the High Rollers but everyone enjoyed themselves nevertheless. There are now three teams vying for second place Bushrangers, TAG Team and Col and Co. Things could change next week when Bushrangers and Tag Team battle against each other. Eumundi Boys continue with their winning streak remaining four points ahead.

TEWANTIN NOOSA BOWLS
The Tewantin Noosa ladies have a busy schedule coming up. Apart from the usual weekly competitions the Fiesta Fours, sponsored by Laguna Estate (Noosa) is set down for Thursday 19 June and is an all-day event with cash prizes. The Medley date has been changed to Saturday 26 July. The ladies’ A singles is nearing completion. Some new names are emerging among the finalists. The ladies’ triples starts on Thursday, 29 May with entries closing on 20 May. It will be a busy time for our games director Van Vignon and events co-ordinator Marlene Trembath along with all committee members.
The men’s B grade singles championship has reached the semi final stages with each game decided on the last end. Trevor Crosby, Bryn Whitcombe, Peter Richardson, John Mohr have reached the semis. Nominations closed for the position of men’s club selectors with just the five names required and these will be duly appointed. The members wish Van Vignon a speedy recovery from her recent surgery and look forward to her return. The training sessions with Rick Dickson continue each Monday. Bowlers are asked to attend at 12.30pm for a 1pm start. John Mohr now has a comprehensive list of club events on the website. It is a great way to keep up to date.
Inclement weather again dogged Friday’s Laguna Estate mixed triples. The winners were Pam and Tibor Wald, Carolyn Pulham from Allan Newman, Olive Nicholas, Bryan Simmons. Jackpot winners were teams Wald and Jones. Men’s president, Gary Moss from a random draw, presented Marlene Trembath, Margaret Dodd, Yvonne Ambrey with Mother’s Day gifts. Noosa Landscape Supplies club select pairs on Tuesday was a win for Joan Pyers, Maggie Dunstan from Pat Surety, Georgina Milligan. Option Eyecare men’s triples on Wednesday had Mat Lloyd, Daryl Birt, Gary Hughes successful from Ivan Ivanusec, Alan Curtis, Ian McCallum.

POMONA BOWLS
The Ladies “A” Grade Championship finalists, Tina Camp and Judy Muir, had a nail- biting game that went down to the wire with the ladies trading shot for shot, and with the score at 22 all, Tina played three fantastic bowls to rest inside Judy’s excellent bowl to take the game 25-22.
The first round of the Ladies Triples Championship saw Veronis O’Connor, Jennie Smith and Gaye Bible defeated Katie McInnes, Ruth Kelliher (sub) and Bernadette Williams 29-12.
The last two ladies social games have been won by Dell Hennessy, Nancy Homer and Bernadette Williams, and Phyllis Roebuck, Judy Muir and Jocelyn Rabjohns.

NOOSA HEADS BOWLS
THE Noosa 1500 Open Pairs, played on the first Monday of each month, again drew a capacity field of 96 bowlers for the May event. And the prize winners came from many clubs, from Pelican Waters in the south to Rainbow Beach up north.
Major winners were Greg Dale and Troy Rowley from Ric Madin and Glenn Whyte. Wendy Ryan and Brenda Balchin topped the Consolation section, with runners-up going to John Taylor and Barry Toby. The next 1500 is scheduled for Monday 2 June.
Early rounds of the men’s triples championship were played last weekend and teams skipped by Ray McComb, Ian Sanday, Kevin Luscombe and Shane Burke remain in contention. The semi-finals are to be decided this Saturday with the final scheduled for 1pm Sunday. The ladies fours final will be played at the same time.
Tuesday mens pairs winners last week were Bob Ginnaw and George Manera from Nick Gelavis and Chris Robinson. The Wednesday ladies triples winners Jan Burkitt, Fran Coules and Hazel Graham. Shane Burke and Ross Ward took out the Friday Jackpot Pairs over Graham Thiele and Paul Rieck.
