Noosa trains together

By JORDAN CULLEN

NOOSA Aquatic Centre has been home to swimmers from St Peter’s Western Swimming Club in the lead-up to the Glasgow Commonwealth Games (23 July-3 August 2014) and the Rio Olympics in 2016.
Noosa’s own Olympian Brittany Elmslie said while she loved Brisbane, “Noosa will always be home”.
The three-time Olympic medallist has been training at the Noosa Aquatic Centre before the Swimming Australia Grand Prix in Canberra this weekend.
“It’s great to be back in Noosa, it’s just an environment that I’m really familiar with,” she said.
When she’s not in the pool or studying a bachelor of business at Griffith University, Brittany said she likes to get back to Noosa to go to the beach and “relax as much as possible”.
Squad coach Michael Bohl has been on the Australian Team since 1991.
Mr Bohl said squad training was great for the swimmers as they supported each other.
“When you get high level athletes training together, good things normally happen,” he said.
Brittany said she enjoys the group training atmosphere.
“It’s a great way to learn from all the other senior members in the team,” she said.
2008 Olympic gold and 2012 Olympic silver and bronze medallist Bronte Barratt agreed.
“We’ve got seven people, all with the same goals, it’s really motivating,” she said.
