NOOSA’S much-loved kerbside collection could undergo a major overhaul with the Noosa Council this week discussing ways to improve the service.
In a report presented to the general committee meeting on Monday 14 December, staff recommended reducing the service to every two years due to poor recycling outcomes and the cost of logistics.
The report said although there were many positive outcomes for this year’s collection, there was still room to improve the service.
A motion was moved by councillor Joe Jurisevic to further investigate options to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the kerbside clean up.
Councillors agreed there was a need to explore better ways to recycle and re-use items of potential value after it was reported that a large volume of electronic waste was compacted and taken to landfill rather than being recycled.
This year marked the second year for the kerbside collection after a six-year break and over 7500 properties participated in the clean-up.
The review of the kerbside collection is expected to come before the new 2016 Noosa Council.
