The Sensory Garden at Pomona State School has been officially recognised as the “Gardening Australia 2013 Community Garden of the Year”. The Sensory Garden, officially opened in August last year by MP David Gibson, featured in Gardening Australia’s January edition. This unique garden was developed with the aim of making a creative and stimulating space for students to not only learn about the environment but also to reflect on the social and emotional lessons provided in class. For example, the uneven climbing logs give the idea that life has ups and downs. To stimulate the senses there are fragrant, edible, tropical and touch and texture sections within the garden, while areas representing water, land and air encourage creativity and imagination.
