When Trevor and Marcy Richards worked as teachers in Kiribati in the Pacific Ocean they realised how dependent their lives were on electricity.
“There was no power, no phone, no doctors,” Trevor said. “Fuel prices were going up down here. We got involved in wind and solar power and then electric driven vehicles.”
Having grown up on a farm where he learnt a lot about fixing vehicles and a background in manual teaching, Trevor developed about a decade ago an electric ute he said was the first electric vehicle registered in Queensland. He brought his ute and a trike prototype to the show. Powered at his house in Kuttabul near Mackay, using solar power, Greg said the trip to Noosa cost about $3.
Trevor’s Drive by Nature business aims to market his trikes. For more information visit www.thebackshed.com/basiclynatural or phone 4954 0285.
