Stories come to life

Author Peter Carnarvas keeps students enthralled.

Can a dog turn into a bird? Can it surf while being a bird? Can a goldfish fly? They can when author and illustrator Peter Carnavas is at the whiteboard.
Peter took a group of pre-Prep students on a fun-filled journey of words and pictures when he visited Sunshine Beach State School recently. Prep Transition Officer Tara Bruin said it was the second year the program had hosted Peter for this event. She said Peter, a trained teacher, had a skilled way of speaking with the children, creating illustrations with their input and of course reading his own stories to them. “The fostering of literacy and the joy of reading is something that our school, and our Prep Transition Program, highly values, she said. “Someone once said that ‘A love of reading starts with just one special story’ and this is what we want all children to find.”
Together with the children Peter read, drew and dreamed up wonderful new ideas for stories, showing the children how easy it is to use your imagination to create your very own stories.
