THE transformation of the Peregian Beach Reservoir from bland to beautiful is almost complete.
The communities of Peregian Beach and Marcus Beach are now being called upon to cast their vote on their preferred artwork to adorn the reservoir’s concrete walls.
Unitywater received 12 submissions from Noosa artists, based on a design brief that was inspired by community preferences submitted during the initial consultation phase, and guided by Noosa Council’s Noosa Design Principles.
These 12 were narrowed down to a shortlist of four designs. Voting to determine a winner from this shortlist opens today, and closes on November.
“The quality of the submissions was excellent, each of them a very personal and creative reflection of the Peregian Beach community and environment,” Unitywater community relations specialist Kate Cash said.
“The shortlisted designs range from an image of a skyscape and a sunrise at Peregian Beach to a watercolour palette of different Peregian landscapes and a full wrap of native trees.
“The four artworks satisfy the criteria of enhancing the reservoir’s appearance in line with the community-driven brief, while meeting the council’s overarching design principles.
“We have opened voting only to residents and business owners from Peregian Beach and Marcus Beach for two reasons. These people live and work in such close proximity to this reservoir and we want the final artwork to truly reflect and retain the characteristics of that particular community.”
Residents of Peregian Beach and Marcus Beach can vote either online at www.unitywater.com.au/graffitiprevention or in person by filling out the voting form mailed to eligible residents and returning it to Annie’s Books in Peregian by 2 November.
Residents can also cast their vote in person and find out more information about each artwork at a public display in Peregian Square from 8.30am to noon on 24 October.
The winning artwork will be announced in November, with installation to follow in the same month.
