Ten grand up for grabs

Sunshine Beach Surf Lifesaving clubs annual ’Ten Grand in the Hand’ fund-raising event is on this weekend – Sunday 19 November – and there are only a handful of tickets remaining. Ten Grand in the Hand is the major fund-raiser for Sunshine Beach’s junior lifesaving program and this event has become an institution in the Sunshine Beach area for over 10 years.
Apart from providing a fun afternoon for all attendees, all funds raised have helped to purchase new boards, junior training gear and much needed lifesaving equipment for the local junior lifesavers.
With two Sunshine Beach lifesavers winning the major awards in Surf Lifesaving Australia’s awards held last week in Sydney, the future has never looked brighter at Sunshine.
Max Pettigrove, Sunshine Beach life-member, won the Australian Lifeguard of the Year award and has been a full-time lifeguard since 1985 at Sunshine Beach Surf Club, and has also been heavily involved in the training and development of the Sunshine Beach Nippers and cadets over the last 15 years.
Scott Summers, Sunshine Beach club captain, was awarded Australian Lifesaver of the Year – and his huge effort in developing Sunshine Beach Surf Club as ’the best little big club in Queensland’ has been acknowledged at Australian level. Both these men have kids in the Nippers/cadets program and are testament to the fact that the culture at Sunshine Beach Surf Club is the best in the nation.
All locals are invited. By purchasing a ticket for $100 for the Ten Grand in the Hand event you’ll enjoy an afternoon of complimentary food, beer/wine/soft drinks, live music for two people and also the opportunity to win $10,000.
Twenty lucky ticket holders will also win their money back which makes this great event even better value for money.
Sunshine Beach SLSC is a small, but active local surf club, however they rely heavily on community support via sponsorships, donations and the public’s support at events like this to ensure that they can continue to operate their Nippers and junior lifesaving programs effectively. With around 200 Nippers and a great junior lifesaving program, the local club needs your support. So by buying a ticket, turning up and having a good time, you’re helping the kids … that’s a win-win.
Only 400 tickets are sold to this popular event. Every year one lucky ticket holder wins $10,000 and they give away another $2000 in 20 x $100 spot prizes.
With free beer, soft drink, wine and champagne, plenty of delicious food served up by the Nippers, and live band ’Sexual Chocolate’ punching out some cruisy Sunday afternoon beats, this event has become a ’must do’ on the local calendar.
Don’t miss out, call club reception on 5447 5491 or pop into Sunshine Beach surf club reception to purchase a tickets before they all sell out.
