In only 12 months since the Katie Rose Cottage charity was established the Katie Rose Hospice is adding on a fourth bedroom and has this week opened a fourth op shop selling furniture at Noosaville to fund the facility’s operations.
Volunteer co-director Carol Raye said enormous community support, hard-working volunteers and the ongoing generosity of individuals, including a $1million donation and others in the tens and hundreds of thousands, has enabled the charity to go from nothing to a fully operational hospice set among beautiful gardens at Doonan.
“It’s been a very long road but it’s been an amazing road. I never underestimated the ability of the community in bringing this together,” she said.
The hospice provides day respite and end of life care to those who are terminally ill.Carol said thanks to a long list of donations the hospice was now fully furnished and equipped and funds raised by its op shops at Tewantin, Cooroy and now Noosaville would go toward financing the team of registered nurses required to care for their clients.
Some of the latest additions to their donations include a washing machine from Harvey Norman Noosa and $2000 raised by one family through a Christmas lights fundraiser as well as ongoing help by Noosa Van Lines who have volunteered numerous times to collect items for them.
Carol said as landlord for their latest op shop The Hannon Group had been “tremendously supportive” in helping them gain the space which will be used to stock some of the beautiful furniture that is donated to them and sort stock for its other op shops.
Look out for the new shop at Unit 3 Industrial Lane, 170 Noosa-Eumundi Road, Noosaville which will open in a couple of weeks and for more information or to volunteer visit www. Katierosecottage.org.au
