Five brave Noosa District State High School students have chopped off their locks in support of the Leukaemia Foundation’s World’s Greatest Shave.
A local hairdresser visited the school on Thursday 16 March during the lunch break to shave the heads of students Deanne Jackson, Joa Darmansjah, Kyle Jervis, Jack Townsend and Josh Baldry while their friends, peers and teachers cheered them on.
The students’ drastic haircuts were sponsored, with all proceeds from the event supporting those faced with blood cancer.
Year 11 co-ordinator Bridge Muir said the students were a little scared and emotional leading up to their shave, but they did all those in the jubilant crowd very proud by seeing the shave through and sporting their new, stylish looks triumphantly.
Year 12 student Josh Baldry commented on how much cooler his head felt on the hot, humid afternoon after his very thick head of hair was removed.
Year 10 student Deanne Jackson was a little apprehensive about shaving off her long, blonde locks, but she courageously saw the big change through, much to the delight of her friends who watched the whole process on in awe.
“She’s so brave. I wish I could do that,” Year 10 student Harriet Small said.
A number of students and staff opted to have their hair coloured crazy shades of pink, purple, blue and green in solidarity for the cause.
