Airport plans come in to land

The Sunshine Coast Airport expansion has been a point of contention throughout the Sunshine Coast Council region for many months and Noosa Council is urging local residents to have their say on the planned expansion.
Residents have until Monday 30 November to view the proposed expansion plans and then have their say on the possible development.
The proposal includes a new 2.4km north-west/south-east runway which is capable of servicing aircraft such as the A330, B787 and B777, with the new orientation of the runway likely to result in changes to the flight path.
Councillor Noel Playford said there are “pros and cons” associated with the proposal, and as such the council won’t make a submission either way on the planned expansion.
“But members of the community should take the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the details and lodge a submission if they support or oppose the proposed airport expansion,” he said.
Cr Playford said residents must lodge their submissions by the 30 November deadline.
The environmental impact statement (EIS) was first open for comment late last year.
Residents can now also comment on additional information to the EIS which was developed in response to concerns raised during the 2014 community consultation period.
