THE Noosa Tigers AFL Special Needs clinic put on a fantastic demonstration last weekend at half time of the Noosa and Moreton Bay game, finishing with a draw.
Coach Rob Purves has been running this clinic for eight weeks on a Wednesday afternoon teaching girls and boys of all ages and abilities the skills of AFL footy.
“We decided that after a couple of practice matches at training, they were good enough to show off their skills and promote that it’s about ability and not disability,” he said.
Each week there are new members joining as the word gets out of how successful the program has been.
Sunshine Butterflies founder Leanne Walsh said the feedback from parents and participants was very positive and praised the efforts of Rob on creating an encouraging environment for participants and mentors.
Rob said players from Noosa Tigers have been attending each week to buddy-up with a child or young adult to encourage them to give it a go.
It is just as rewarding for the players as it is for those with disabilities and all look forward to getting together each week.
