Nail-biter in the local derby

By JOE JURISEVIC

THE Noosa Dolphin’s Under-7s played their local derby under lights at home while the remaining Noosa teams made the long drive to Caloundra and Witta on the weekend in this weekend’s round of Junior Rugby Games.
Noosa Fins got home by just five points against their clubmates Noosa Reds in the Under-7s, playing in chilly conditions at Dolphin Oval on Friday night.
It was standing room only as both teams refused to relent to the other’s constant pressure.
With seconds left in the match, the Fins forced a crucial turnover and went coast to coast to seal a well-earned victory right on the final hooter.
Cross code specialists Jake and Charlie were strong in attack as Darcy, Will, Jax and Sarena did the hard yards up the middle. Conor, Harry and Zac worked hard all night and Noah continues to impress as a defender. Quinn, Lachie and James were strong on debut. Domino’s Pizza Player Of The Match – Jake Clark.
Meanwhile the Under-11 Noosa Fins defeated Matthew Flinders 15-12 in a thriller of their own.
With the Fins down12-0 in this bruising match, they showed their true character and class to fight their way back. Flinders were determined in defence and held up the Fins just metres out several times.
Ultimately, Noosa ended up dominating possession and territory with well worked phases that wore Flinders down to create their scoring opportunities and eventually take the match.Tries: Billy Bougoure, Lochie Dudgeon, Sabyr Kime. Domino’s Pizza Player of the Match – James Gelling.
Meanwhile in the Under-15s, another thriller saw Brothers defeat Noosa 17-15.
It was the first loss for the season for the Noosa Under-15s.
A slow start saw Brothers score first, however little separated the two teams throughout as represented by the score. Try scorers Noah Blake, Sameet Raju and Alex Moses. Domino’s Pizza Player of the Match – Joel Cavell.
