THE Noosa Coast Guard has found another possible site for a proposed memorial wall, after Noosa Council rejected the first proposed site at Noosa spit last month.
Although nothing is set in stone, Coast Guard QF5 deputy flotilla commander Alan Hall said the Noosa lookout at the end of Viewland Drive, was a possibility.
“We’re considering sites at this stage and the Noosa lookout is just one of the possibilities,” he said.
The memorial wall was proposed by the Noosa Coast Guard as a way for residents and visitors to remember lost loved ones.
But the wall has a serious fund-raising need as Noosa Coast Guard looks for ways to raise funds for a new sea rescue vessel, which will be desperately needed in the next five years.
In other Coast Guard news, Mr Hall has urged boaties to check their equipment and vessels for holes after a leaky catamaran went under on the Noosa River on Saturday 13 September.
Mr Hall said the catamaran owners had put the vessel into Noosa River only to realise the vessel had a number of holes in it.
“The cat started to sink and the owners have called for assistance,” he said.
Fortunately, a passing vessel assisted the stricken cat before Noosa Coast Guard arrived and offered assistance.
Mr Hall said it was important that boaties check their equipment and vessels before entering the water.
