Police Briefs

A 63-year-old woman will front court charged with the dangerous operation of a vehicle causing grievous bodily harm after crashing her car into two backpackers on Noosa Parade earlier this year.
Police charged the Noosa Heads woman last week and will allege she crashed into the Noosa Parade roundabout on 26 May, seriously injuring two tourists.
Police report one of the injured men was a German national who had one of his legs amputated as a result of the crash.
The other tourist received minor injuries.
Police confirmed the German national, who is believed to have been a prominent soccer player, has returned to Germany, while the other backpacker has continued to travel around Australia.
The woman will face Noosa Magistrates’ Court on 30 September.

High tide
Police are reminding locals to “know their tides” after a four-wheel drive was swamped at Noosa North Shore on the weekend.
Noosa Heads officer in charge Senior Sergeant Steve McReight said it was important for people travelling to Noosa North Shore to learn the tide times to avoid their car being swallowed by the high tide.
Visit www.msq.gov.au/tides for all local tide times.

Traffic blitz
Local police joined forces with the Department of Boating and Fisheries to run a traffic blitz on Noosa North Shore last weekend.
The joint operation, named Noosa North Shore IX, saw a total of 185 random breath tests carried out on land and water.
Over the weekend, four people were charged with failing to wear a seatbelt, two people were fined for not producing their licence, one person was fined for speeding on the beach and one person was fined for using a mobile phone while driving.
Three people will appear before court on charges including drink driving and driving without due care and attention.
On the water, three people were caught operating an unregistered boat, two fines were issued to boat owners who failed to carry safety equipment and one person was caught speeding.
The police will continue their traffic blitz on Noosa North Shore over the school holidays with the help of the all-terrain vehicle and four-wheel drive.

Well-behaved
Local police have applauded the behaviour of event-goers over what was a busy weekend for Noosa.
Senior Sergeant Steve McReight said there were no major incidents over the four-day Noosa Jazz Festival or throughout the Originals Music Festival on Saturday.
