Hall call for life jackets

By JONATHON HOWARD

COAST Guard Noosa has stressed the importance of wearing life jackets after crews rescued several passengers of a small vessel that had overturned on the Noosa Bar last Friday 12 December.
Deputy flotilla commander QF5 Alan Hall said police had called the crew about 8pm to assist the vessel that had three adults and one child onboard.
“After searching for a while, they were located stranded on a sandbank, thankfully unhurt, but none were wearing life jackets,” Mr Hall said.
“Rotary Rescue transported them back to the QF5 base. The overturned vessel was located the next day and retrieved by its owners.”
Mr Hall said the Coast Guard Noosa also towed a vessel with engine problems from the Noosa River to its home in Noosa Waters and later that week escorted a large catamaran safely across the bar and into a safe anchorage.
Mr Hall said between rescues and fund-raising, the Coast Guard Noosa team were also getting into the festive spirit.
“Friday 19 December will see the annual Noosa Waters Christmas Parade led by Coast Guard Noosa’s vessel Davo’s rescue and it will be well worth watching,” Mr Hall said.
“They are hoping to beat the record of over 100 brightly decorated boats cruising the canals, starting at the small bridge on Saltwater Avenue.
“The boats will cruise all of the canals and can be seen from any of the bridges, parks or vacant blocks.
“We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone a very Happy Christmas and a great 2015, and to thank our sponsors, Davo’s Tackle World Noosa, the Rotary Club of Noosa, Bendigo Bank, Noosa Council and all of our supporters and Associate Members, without whom we would find it difficult to provide the community service we currently do.
“If you’re on the water over the holidays, please take extra care, remember the seasonal speed limits and above all enjoy our wonderful waterways – Merry Christmas from all at Coast Guard Noosa.”
