Hugh’s spell at the top

A YEAR 3 student from Sunshine Beach State School has taken out the top award for English in Queensland.
Hugh Fraser competed in the International Competitions and Assessments for Schools (ICAS) which tests Years 3 to 7 students in schools throughout the world in areas of study such science, spelling, English and maths.
Hugh, who achieved the top score for English in Queensland, said at first he didn’t know if he could do it.
“But then my family, school and friends said I should try it,” he said.
“My experience is that each day I learn something new. I enjoyed doing the ICAS tests because I learnt so much.”
Hugh said he now believes he can do anything and that English is his favourite subject.
Ms Easey who has been teaching for 30 years said she had never had an ICAS medal winner and said the Sunshine Beach State School community is very proud of Hugh’s achievement.
