Chef’s flavourful field

LOCAL chef Peter Kuruvita is cooking up a storm at the One Day International series with a new initiative set to put a smile on even the most serious cricket fan’s face.
Fields of Flavour is a successful initiative launched by Cricket Australia after fans asked for more variety in food available at the venues during the series.
“I was approached in November by Cricket Australia after they and the players recognised the fans and what they wanted,” Peter said.
“Fans are often quite limited in their food options at major sporting events, so to offer something new and increase the range on offer is quite exciting.”
Fans can feast on flavours from around the world including Indian, Vietnamese and Mexican from small pop-up restaurants which are quick to serve and eager to please.
Peter is coming away with the highest score after a successful debut at Perth’s WACA which saw a variety of restaurants pop up in the grounds and offer a wide choice of yummy foods.
The MCG hosted the second round of restaurants on Sunday (17 January) with five restaurants offering street food to hungry fans and live music played throughout the day to create a festival atmosphere.
Peter said the last leg of the tour, which will take place at the SCG next Sunday (24 January), is set to be even bigger and better.
“We will open the restaurants in a part just outside the cricket grounds, there will be eight restaurants, live entertainment and a festival vibe,” Peter said.
“This will only get better and we plan to continue the restaurants again next year.”
