THIS Sunday, 22 February, senior cricketers from the Sunshine Coast and Wide Bay area will don their whites and battle it out at the Tewantin-Noosa Cricket Club Oval at Read Park, Tewantin.
Seniors cricket is one of the fastest growing areas of cricket in Australia and regular matches are played in South East Queensland throughout the winter.
Last November four teams, representing Queensland, travelled to Melbourne to compete in the Ninth Australian Senior Cricket National Championships.
The Queensland Cyclones returned as undefeated champions.
This Sunday the game will be played with 45 overs for each team, starting at 10am.
This is a warm-up match before five Queensland teams travel to Armidale in March for the annual Cooper-Finlay Cup Carnival, played each year between Queensland and New South Wales.
Anyone interested in seeing how cricket is played at a senior level is invited to come to Read Park on Sunday. The bar will be open. Regular training sessions for men, 59 years or older, are held at Maroochydore Cricket Club each Tuesday afternoon. For more information, contact Gary Madsen (Sunshine Coast co-ordinator) on 5447 2265 or Randall Woodley on 5447 3559.
