At home with design

EUMUNDI building designer Georgie Brachold has won the Queensland State Building Design Award for Best Student Design 2016.
Building designers from around the state gathered at the Building Designers Association of Queensland gala event which was held at the Brisbane Convention Centre on Friday night to celebrate excellence in design.
The mother of three children completed a duel diploma of building design and interior design in November last year while also working full time with Eumundi based sustainable building design studio Ecolibrium Designs.
“I’m thrilled and excited. It’s been such a hard few years during some major changes and supporting three children,” she said.
“But in the end it’s all been worthwhile and all the hard work is starting to pay off.
“I really believe that homes filled with natural elements and that respond to nature as much as possible make you feel good.
“As a designer I want to help to create those spaces for other people to enjoy.”
Ecolibrium Designs owner Brett Grimley said Georgie has “worked really hard”.
“She has a passion for great design so this is fantastic for Georgie and thoroughly deserved,” he said.
Georgie’s winning design was a new, high-end sustainable home.
Incorporating universal design principles, the north-facing, adaptable home is designed for multi-generational living.
A natural pool and multi-level gardened outdoor living space was a major feature of the house.
