Sports boffin shares his secrets

By TONY FROST

Internationally acclaimed physiologist Wayne Goldsmith has assisted many groups of athletes from various fields to overcome any doubts or fears that they may have, to achieve their potential, based on a common sense and logical approach to their chosen endeavours.
Based on the Gold Coast, this sports scientist has assisted many sports including the Rugby teams of Australian Wallabies and New Zealand All Blacks, British, USA and Australian swim teams and Tennis Australia.
Last Sunday, Wayne spent all day at the Noosa Aquatic Centre, together with his wife, Helen, from 7.30am to 4pm, with a hands-on approach and many tips on techniques, relaxation and nutrition, to complete a most beneficial day for members of the Noosa Masters Swim Club.
Helen, a member of the Australian Swim team at the 1990 Commonwealth Games, medalling in breastroke and butterfly events, spent much time in the pool demonstrating techniques in all four form strokes.
A secondary school teacher and swim coach for the past 18 years, Helen has been invited as a guest speaker at the World Swim Coaches’ conference in Cleveland, USA, next month.
“Our club has been most fortunate to benefit from the expertise and knowledge of Wayne and Helen thanks to some funds received from our members volunteering at USM’s events,” said club president Ian Tucker.
