Work on the cottage

WORK is about to start on the refurbishment of Tait Duke Community Cottage in Earl Street, Tewantin.
Site manager, Scott Mackenzie has been appointed and is currently inducting 10 local people who will participate in a 16-week construction project funded through Skilling Queenslanders for Work.
Close to 40 applicants applied for the traineeships with the 10 successful applicants ranging from 15 to 55 years old, with two females and eight males.
Council’s community development officer Kylie Finigan said the addition of trainees was an exciting milestone for the project.
“The employment of Scott Mackenzie as the supervisor, and the 10 highly motivated trainees with diverse backgrounds is a really exciting milestone in the project,” she said.
“Noosa Council is grateful for the generous participation of all the community partners, United Synergies, Rotary Club of Noosa Heads, Hutchinson Builders and consultant Heritage Architect, Laurie Jones, and the local businesses who are donating their time and materials to the project.”
Qualified tradesmen are still required for the refurbishment with a call for electricians, plumbers, carpenters, concreters and blocklayers in high demand. Materials are also being sought.
If you are able to help or would like more information, contact Jim Bennett, Noosa Heads Rotary, on 0437 300 434.
