$5.5m for sealing Dr Pages Road

in brief

NOOSA Council will today award a $5.5 million contract for sealing Dr Pages Road to local contractors Shadforths Pty Ltd.
A report to the general committee meeting on Monday 19 October outlined the planned sealing of the hinterland road with the works expected to cost $800,000 more than previously estimated due to extra culvert work needed to complete the job.
The project will see Dr Pages Road become an 8.5 metre wide road with a speed limit of 80km/h and a flood immunity of up to 10 years.
The road will also feature a 1 metre shoulder for cyclists to help make the road cycle-friendly.
The sealing of Dr Pages Road is expected to complete the “missing link” in the tourist road network of Noosa Shire.
Council capital works budget
OVER 50 per cent of council’s capital works budget will be spent by the end of November, according to Noosa Council director of planning and infrastructure Martin Drydale.
Mr Drydale updated councillors in the general committee meeting on Monday 19 October, stating that as of 15 October, over $3.3 million or 12 per cent of the year’s budget had already been spent on projects with another $3.9 million committed to future projects,
Mr Drydale said the figures were on par with what was to be expected and after today’s allocation of $5.5 million for the sealing of Dr Pages Road, more than $12.2 million or 43 per cent of the budget would have been spent.
The repair works to the Munna Point Bridge are also expected to start this week.
