Boost for electric vehicle expo

Council has approved more than $150,000 for the latest Community Grants round which will support more than 20 recipients across four categories – programs, events, equipment and infrastructure.
Council’s Community Development manager Alison Hamblin said an electric vehicle expo to encourage sustainable transport uptake was among the exciting projects given a boost.
“The expo by Zero Emissions Noosa (ZEN) will showcase the latest in electric transport technology. In addition to offering the community a great way to learn about hybrid and electric vehicles, the event features a community bike ride to encourage more people to try two-wheeled transport,” she said.
Funding for the Anywhere Theatre Festival in May will see 65 local artists present 26 performances of 12 different works at locations across Noosa Shire.
“Noosa District Rugby League’s Legends of League program is set to receive a boost, too. The initiative raises awareness about bullying and helps destigmatise mental health issues, while encouraging positive role modelling for young people,” Ms Hamblin said.
Other recipients include Queensland Koala Crusaders for its work caring for critically injured local wildlife, Pomona and District Horse and Pony Club to equip its clubhouse with solar power and a project will bring young refugees to Noosa for short stays with host families.
Cash from this grant round will also be used to help the Coast Guard purchase three new Simrad Global Positioning Systems for their main rescue vessel, plus fund a study into two threatened frog species.
