Hall set for makeover

By Jolene Ogle

The future of the Cooroy Memorial Hall is looking bright with a council report recommending the restoration of the building.
Council director of community services Alan “Fox” Rogers prepared a report on 8 February outlining the possible future uses of the hall with option number four suggesting council enter into a lease agreement with the newly former Cooroy Memorial Hall Association (CMHA).
The report said council has had a number of productive meetings with CMHA over the past month to discuss the process of restoring the hall.
“It is evident there is significant community intent to actively assist with the repair of the hall and the ongoing management,” Mr Rogers said.
Mr Rogers said the CMHA building sub-committee, which comprises an architect, a structural engineer and two builders, had the “necessary expertise” to oversee the works.
Option number one in the report was to demolish the hall at a cost of $165,000 and replace it with a memorial park, but this has not been recommended by Mr Rogers.
According to the document, a report should have been presented to the March round of council meetings for councillors to decide the future uses and management of the hall.
