Top playwrights premiere work

WITH nearly 70 entries from across Australia, New Zealand, USA and Papua New Guinea, three playwrights have been chosen to premiere their work at the 39th One-Act Play Festival at Noosa Arts Theatre in July.
The One-Act Play Festival is an important event on the Noosa Longweekend Festival Calendar, and offers an $8000 cash prize pool, including the Nimmo Prize of $5000 being awarded to the Best Play.
Judging for the Best Play commences more than six months prior to the One-Act Play Festival and involves a judging panel of three industry professionals, supported by an independent reading panel.
The forthcoming theatrical offering of Noosa Arts Theatres will feature the three finalists presenting their work in a series of performances in July.
Allan Mackay lives in Gerringong, NSW, and is author of over 35 plays published in six collections, with his plays performed worldwide.
Allan will be presenting his latest work A Poet Passes, an intriguing play weaving through the delicacies of a mother and daughter attending the funeral of their husband and father, a famous poet who deserted them 17 years earlier.
Author of Dead Loss, a hilarious comedy involving an ageing ex rock star who has fallen foul of both the authorities and criminal gangs, Richard Harris is a former engineer based in Malawi who turned his hand passionately to amateur theatre. Currently living in Bougainville Island, Papua New Guinea, Richard has acted, directed and written for amateur theatre in Africa, the UK and New Zealand.
Harry’s Bounty is an intriguing play concerning an old factory that has not been in operation for over a quarter of a century. Two young people arrive at the abandoned factory with news which will change all of their lives forever.
Playwright Polly Low was born and raised on Kangaroo Island, an upbringing which had a strong influence on her written work. Harry’s Bounty is her third play (preceded by The Hidden and Territory) and marks her move into a stronger focus on her writing passion.
