Wellington roast well done

MAYOR Tony Wellington was marinated and skewered as friends and colleagues served the mayor up as a well-cooked Sunday Roast.
The roasting event, held at Wallace House on Sunday (18 June), saw Deputy Mayor Frank Wilkie, aka urban futurist Cecil Pools, and long-time friends Michael Egan and Johanne Wright roast the mayor with friendly fire and witty banter.
Gold Coast-based urban futurist “Cecil Pools” spoke of his vision for Noosa: 50-storey high rises on Noosa Hill connected to Hastings Street with a 24/7 cable car operation and theme parks dotted across the region, while Mr Egan shared some anecdotes from the Mayor’s personal life and Ms Wright revealed Cr Wellington’s previous life as a filmmaker and songwriter.
Noosa Open Studios deputy chair Gabi Dick said funds raised from the roasting event would go towards the main event to take place in August.
“‘Monies raised from this function will assist the Noosa Open Studios Committee to promote our August event and subsidise the buses providing studio tours each morning and afternoon during the three-day event,” she said.
“Noosa Open Studios is happening from Friday 19 August through to Sunday 21 August. Studios of 40 participating artists and artisans will be open to the public who will be able to view and engage with professional artists and craftspeople in their personal creative space.”
