Imaginate Art Festival Is Here!

It’s not often that kids are encouraged to touch the things on display in an art gallery. Well that’s exactly what Bliss Cavanagh is going to invite you to do in her installation, Otherworldly, on show at Noosa Regional Gallery as part of Imaginate – a festival of creative discovery and play, put together specifically with children in mind.

Imaginate is an art exhibition and festival for children of all ages, designed to excite the imagination and ignite the senses. Entry is free with activities running daily. The program includes competitions and affordable workshops for teens and children (and even some for adults so they don’t feel left out!).

Across all four galleries, children and their carers will lose themselves in a range of creative spaces that they can explore and interact with.

The LEGO display, created by Brick events, invites children both young and old to play and contribute to a scaled Lego installation of Noosa Regional Gallery. Kids can add to the ‘build wall’ and assemble their own creatures and structures on the ‘build tables’.

The Buzz space asks kids to come and draw on our wall! Adjacent to this, a giant shadow theatre opens up an arena where young performers can be part of the show. Children are encouraged to write, create and perform their own productions, taking shadow play to a whole new level. There’s a collection of shadow puppets just waiting for kids to bring them to life. There’s also a making station where the adventurous can put together their own.

Bliss Cavanagh’s Otherworldly will allow visitors to chill and relax after the excitement of those other activities. Otherworldly is a unique exploration space that is not only engaging but offers a therapeutic sensory experience. Noosa Regional Gallery is offering special before and after hours opening times for those in need of a quiet space. Call the Gallery to make a booking on 07 5329 6145.

And for those who just love a good read, get a glimpse behind the scenes of how a childrens’ picture book is put together. Explore the Illustration Space with artworks from one of Australia’s favourite authors and illustrators, Peter Carnavas. With story-telling, reading and art activities, this space will offer visitors the chance to loose themselves in the magical world of books. This is going to be an exhibition and festival not to be missed.
