Plenty to consider

By JONATHON HOWARD

A PETITION to change parking at Noosa Junction and action to stamp out graffiti, were just two of the many issues for consideration during Noosa Council’s infrastructure and services committee meeting on Monday 19 August.
The council also updated councillors on the planning and infrastructure department, community services department, regulated dog inspection program (to inspect known dangerous dogs) and the local law making process.
It was back in June when hundreds of Noosa Junction business owners and operators signed a petition to reconfigure parking along Sunshine Beach Road.
Councillors will now consider the petition with two recommendations before them:
* Take no action at this stage but include the investigation of the traffic impact of this proposal in the 2014/15 shire-wide traffic study.
* And, advise the lead petitioner that the council considers that the potential impact of this proposal on the flow of traffic through Noosa Junction warrants a more detailed investigation as part of a shire-wide traffic study.
Councillors were also briefed on action to stamp out the illegal act of graffiti.
The report revealed that in the six months from January to June this year, graffiti removal cost Noosa Council ratepayers $20,500.
Councillors were presented with a five steps to deter graffiti.
They include prompt removal of graffiti, photographing and reporting graffiti to police, graffiti removal agreements with other agencies, participation in the Youth Justice Program and public education programs.
In other news, Noosa Council has revealed it will write to the Australian Heritage Council, advising of Noosa Council’s support for National Heritage listing for the Cooloola Region, excluding the Noosa North Shore Beachfront Caravan Park.
