THE welcome rain made for wet and slippery conditions to challenge teams over the weekend with only a few weeks of the season remaining before the finals.
U6 Fins 40 drew Brothers 40
The side was down in numbers this week, but those that were on hand were on fire. Lots of ducking and diving and slipping and sliding from both sides ensured an eventful game. Domino’s Pizza Player of the Match went to Phoenix and Brendan.
U6 Reds 45 drew St Andrews 45
With the bitter taste of last week’s defeat still fresh in the minds of the Noosa boys, they took to the field with grim determination. Captain Jax’s first touch of the ball was masterful as he took the kickoff with ease and flirted with the touch line to set-up the first of nine Noosa tries. Domino’s Pizza Player Of The Match was Jax Davies.
U8 Brothers 15 d Reds 10
Captain Joch led the boys on the field, with both teams playing hard, rucking and mauling from end to end, turning over or securing the ball from either tenacious ripping or powerful driving. This week the entire team deserved the Domino’s award with all players showing great commitment in attack and defence. However, there can only be one and this week the Domino’s Pizza Player of the Match is Oscar.
U9 St Andrews Red 35 d Fins 20
St Andrews eventually overcame a spirited Noosa side in a tough encounter. Not unlike the Bledisloe Cup match, it was tight in trying conditions and the forwards dominated the play. Try scorers were Flynn, Jackson, Leif and Mack. Defensive stand outs were Hunter, Fynn, Jack, Joel, and Tom in particular. Domino’s Pizza Player Of The Match was Joel Broderick.
U9 Reds 25 d St Andrews 20
The slippery conditions made for a gritty game of rugby and St Andrews provided stiff opposition. Noosa had to dig deep and the quality of tries scored by the boys was a testament to the on-field struggle. Try scorers were Andrew, Bailey, Fletcher, Kye and Reggie. Special mention for fine defensive work were Kian, Bailey, Max, Oliver, Cam, Harry and Tane. Domino’s Pizza Player Of The Match was Andrew Doyle.
U10 Reds 27 d Noosa Fins 25
With both teams evenly matched, it was an exciting and closely fought game between the two Noosa Under 10 teams. It was wonderful to see how much both teams have developed and improved over the season and the score was a true reflection of the effort put in by both teams. Tries for the Reds were scored by Max Ruster (3), Sabyr Kime (1) and Tom Auty (1). Flynn O’Connor scored the winning conversion. Domino’s Pizza Player of the Match was awarded to the very hard working Lochie Leonard. Try scorers for the Fins: Lachie Dudgeon (3), Joe Rowles, Joe Siemon. Domino’s Pizza Player of the Match was Joe Rowles.
U13 Grammar 21 d Noosa 19
Tough conditions today with the unrelenting rain, the boys met a very determined Sunshine Coast Grammar squad. It was a real battle of attrition where the side’s defence was pushed to the limits. Yvahn put in an outstanding display of tackling to receive the Domino’s Pizza Player of the Match. Charlie getting through a mountain of work in defence as well and was a worthy recipient of the Sonny Payne Spirit of Rugby Award. Our thoughts and best wishes go to Jordan Sylvester who sustained a season ending knee injury. Here’s to a speedy recovery. Tries – Jordan Sylvester, Harry Barnett and Tom Payne. Conversions – Tom Payne, Yvahn Allsworth.
