Must-see film festival sessions

1. Industry insights: For a fascinating look into the magic of sound in cinema, don’t miss An Evening with James Currie. In the 90-minute special event Currie will take the audience behind the scenes on three of his iconic Australian films – Bad Boy Bubby, Ten Canoes and Charlie’s Country. 8pm, Thursday, 26 October, The J Theatre Noosa.
2. Short film sessions: Set across a range of genres, catch a selection of short films officially selected by Noosa International Film Festival directors. There are nine sessions throughout the festival, so there’s no excuse for missing one. Pick up the program for details.
3. Surfing history: Men of Wood and Foam tells the story of the birth of the surf boom, a golden decade when surfing was transformed from a cultish offshoot of lifesaving into a sport and culture with its own music, movies, fashions and heroes. The documentary delves into the period with interviews from leading surf personalities of the day, seamless re-enactment sequences and rarely-seen archival footage covering surfing in Australia over seven decades. 8pm, Saturday, 28 October, The J Theatre Noosa.
