NEXT Monday 26 October the state will turn pink in celebration of Cancer Council Queensland’s official Pink Ribbon Day.
Hundreds of dedicated Cancer Council Queensland staff and volunteers will be out in force across the state selling pink merchandise to raise vital funds for breast and gynaecological cancer research and patient support.
Cancer Council Queensland spokesperson Katie Clift called on the community to join together in a show of strength for women impacted by breast and gynaecological cancers.
“Every year in Queensland around 4000 women will be diagnosed with breast or a gynaecological cancer and around 800 women will die from a women’s cancer,” Ms Clift said.
“Cancer Council’s Pink Ribbon Day helps raise vital funds for the one in six Queenslanders who will be diagnosed with a women’s cancer in their lifetime.
“CCQ is working hard every day to beat women’s cancers through prevention programs, support services and world-class cancer research.
“The good news is that our hard work is making a difference. Thanks to prevention and early detection programs and improved treatment options, more Queenslanders are surviving women’s cancers.
“Nearly 45,500 Queensland women are alive today after a diagnosis of women’s cancer in the past 25 years.”
This year Cancer Council Queensland aims to raise $1.9 million through Pink Ribbon Day, Girls’ Night In and other Pink fund-raising events.
“Show your support by visiting one of our many Pink Ribbon Day sites across the state and purchasing a pin or merchandise – all funds raised support Cancer Council Queensland’s vital work each year in women’s cancer research, education and patient support programs,” Ms Clift said.
Show your support this October and November by registering to host a Girls’ Night In fund-raiser, pink event or by purchasing merchandise on the official Pink Ribbon Day (26 October).
