NOOSAVILLE will be alive with the sound of drums on Valentine’s Day when more than 200 people rise up in dance in a bid to stop violence against women.
The annual V Day “Break the Chain” dance will be held at the Lions’ Park, Gympie Terrace, Noosaville, on 14 February at 5pm, and everyone is welcome to join in.
Established on Valentine’s Day 2012, the dance is part of the One Billion Rising campaign that raises awareness of violence against women.
According to One Billion Rising, one in three women will be beaten or raped during their lifetime, equating to one billion women and girls affected by gender violence worldwide.
In response to the staggering statistic, One Billion Rising invite the Noosa community to come together to dance and drum.
Rehearsals of the “Break the Chain” dance start on Saturday 31 January, from 9am, at the Noosa Leisure Centre, Wallace Drive, Noosaville.
There is no need to book in for rehearsals. Anyone is welcome to attend and two rehearsals are recommended to learn the dance that will be performed in unison.
There are five rehearsals: Saturday 31 January, 9-10.30am, Thursday 5 February, 7-8.30pm, Saturday 7 February, 9-10.30am, Tuesday 10 February, 4-5pm, and Thursday 12 February, 7-8.30pm.
