Noosa Heads Bowls
TWO more club championships were decided at Noosa last Sunday.
The Men’s Triples was a close tussle all the way, with the match being decided on the last of the 31 ends. Team Sanday came from two shots down to score a four and win the match by two in a real thriller. Joining skip Ian Sanday were Neil Walsh, lead and Cliff Hackett, second. The scoreline was 31-29 over Kevin Luscombe’s team.
Pat Teale skipped the winning Ladies Four with team mates Marie McCall, Verle McComb and Ursula Ford. They scored a solid win over Jan Burkitt’s four, 26 shots to 10.
The format of having two finals on a Sunday afternoon again proved popular with a good roll up of members in attendance for the action.
Tuesday Men’s again saw the Sanday-Walsh pair scoring over Paul Rieck and Ric McDonald. Jan Burkitt and Jan Zemler took the prize on Wednesday.
Friday Jackpot Pairs was abandoned after only two ends were played, when a 20mm deluge in 20 minutes flooded the greens. There were much finer conditions for Saturday bowls however when the Triples team led by John Channing-Pearce scored the biggest margin and the Pairs section was won by Stephen and Jennifer Bowie.

Cooroy Bowls
REIGNING Mixed Pairs Champions B. Winkler and R. Hassall were defeated in the first round by J. Ainscough and T. Charles. The narrow margin of two points and the low score of 17-15 reflect the calibre of the game. B. and M. Coventry had a very close game winning by one point against N. Duffield and S. Hands. Other winners E. Reece and G. Green defeated L. and D. Hateley-James, whilst A. Lerch and B. Mahoney won against M. Bottomley and R. Butler.
Tuesday Jackpot Pairs was won by two teams.
G. Green and J. Kirkman and R. Butler, G. Duffield and F. Bravo shared the prize money from runners-up A. Lerch and J. Donald.
Tag Team had a very exciting win on the last bowl of the evening against Bushrangers in the High Rollers comp. “I don’t believe it!” was heard to resound loudly in the club after the game.
Settlement is due on 30 May so next week will see many final games for the season.
The club’s future is still uncertain as we negotiate the lease of the greens with the new owner – the end of an era may be nigh. No longer will Cooroy Bowls Club exist.
On a happier note though, a new club known as the Cooroy Community Bowls Club Inc is now recruiting members. Fingers crossed we will have a home.

Cooroy Business Bowls
THE Cooroy Business Bowls competition has been held over the last 12 weeks at the Cooroy Bowls Club. The finals have been run and Frank’s Gym were winners with 44 points overall. Jacobson’s and Pages were runners-up with 43 points.
Results: SEC 42 pts, Fossils 40 pts, Cooroy RSL 38 pts, Belvedere 36 pts, Thunderbirds 34 pts, Cooroy Hotel and Gettin Plastered 32 Pts, Bonnells, Renderers and Treble Clefs 31 Pts, Craft 27 Pts.
Tewantin Noosa Bowls
THE men’s and ladies’ selectors are gearing up for the forthcoming 2014 Pennant season. Lists have been placed on the noticeboards for bowlers to place their names indicating their interest to be selected.
With the District deciding in what divisions the teams will compete the club anticipates fielding strong combinations. Training times and other details will appear on a regular basis.
The weekly competitions were subject to some very wet weather with both the Tuesday and Friday games washed out. It was only possible for the training on Monday, Wednesday’s Priceline Chemist (Tewantin), and championship matches on Thursday and Saturday to be played.
Winners on Wednesday were Con O’Rourke, P. Hutchison, Wayne Langham 25 ends +4 from Alan Shaw, Bryn Whitcombe, Bob Schofield 20 ends +4.
The Ladies’ A Grade Singles championship semi finals resulted in a comfortable win for Pam Wald against Carol McAskill. Pat Digby and Evelyn Coghlan had a very close game with the match decided on the last bowl of the final end. Pam and Pat will playoff for the final next Thursday at 1pm.
The Men’s B Singles championship semi finals were won convincingly by Bryn Whitcombe from John Mohr and Trevor Crosby who defeated Peter Richardson. The final between Bryn and Trevor will be on Saturday at 1pm. Congratulations to all competitors.
Entries for the Ladies’ Triples close on May 20 with play starting on May 29.
The Ladies’ Fiesta Fours sponsored by Laguna Estate (Noosa) is scheduled for Thursday, June 19, commencing with morning tea at 8.30. There are cash prizes and the first 42 teams will be accepted. Closing date is June 14.

Pomona Bowls
THE Dodt Cup was played at Albert Bowls over the weekend with Pomona emerging victorious. The game on Saturday saw three rink wins over Kandanga.

The semi finals saw a win for S. Chandler and the pairs team while the fours team lost. The finals between Pomona and Cooloola Coast saw the pairs and fours victorious to give the Dodt Cup to Pomona.
The semi-finals of the Ladies Triples Championship got underway with one team on both rinks getting away to a fast start, but it was not to be either team’s day.
