New boss, new projects in pipeline

By JOLENE OGLE

It was a unanimous vote to elect Councillor Sandy Bolton as the new chair of the council’s Infrastructure and Services Committee.
Cr Bob Abbot stepped down from the role at Tuesday’s meeting, before fellow committee members Cr Frank Pardon and Mayor Noel Playford, nominated Cr Bolton for the role.
“It was a surprise,” Cr Bolton said.
“But I am very excited to be working with such a great committee and I have some very big shoes to fill.”
Cr Bolton said the work ahead for the committee was “quite extensive” and while she couldn’t give away too much, she was looking forward to “a multitude of good outcomes for the community once the council had completely stabilised”.
“I am looking forward to some great new projects in the not too distant future,” she said.
And it seems new projects are not far off with the Infrastructure and Services Committee approving $10,110 of funding for new art projects in the Noosa community.
In a report presented to the committee on Tuesday, it was recommended that five local projects be funded as part of the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF), a joint initiative of the State Government Arts Queensland and Noosa Council.
A total of eight applications for funding were received and submissions were scoured and assessed in regards to criteria, including the project’s impact and benefit for the community, how well the project is planned as well as whether the project will increase the sustainability of quality and diverse creative communities.
All applicants for the RADF funding are yet to be notified of the council’s decision.
