Pirates battle with the Crushers

By Traci Hozier

NOOSA PIRATES
ROUND 4
UNDER 6
Under 6 Noosa Pirates were ready and able to play the Nambour Crushers. This week saw much improvement all around. They were tackling, running the ball mostly towards the try line and are beginning to feel like real footy players. Players of the match went to Beau and Cooper for their big hit ups and improved ball skills. Coaches award went to Noah who continues to try hard every week.
UNDER 9 BLUE
Where are the NRL selectors when you need them? Under 9 Blue brought their A-game to their home ground game and Nambour didn’t see what was coming. Not sure what was in the club’s water or all our team ate their Weetbix but they were on fire! The team ran onto the field confident with Bailey taking on the role as Captain. The boys talked to each other well and geared each other up for what was one of their best games of the season. The club saw the Drinnan duo – Bailey and – over the try line twice and tackling up a storm. Super Sam whipped on that dummy half shirt and put on a show with a hat trick taking Nambour by surprise. Rhy and Lucas with lots of forward running to see them both over the line for a try each. Luka with a power house run to plough through the defence line and run half the field to get his try and then convert. Tait and Clancy were pivotal parts of the team helping their team-mates with good runs and plenty of tackles. Thanks Matt for the pep talk at training this week and Jack Reed from the Broncos for popping into training certainly gave the boys a boost this week. It was so hard to choose a player of the match but it was hard to go past Super Sam’s hat trick!
UNDER 10 YELLOW
Under 10 Yellow set sail for home and moored themselves and their booty at Cooroy. The team of buccaneers tried and tried to keep Nambour from crushing their wooden legs and cutlasses. The boys are taking what they do at training and adding it into their game. Most pleasing to see is watching them stay in their corridors and defend what’s in front of them. Unfortunately, the Pirates say goodbye to one of their crew this weekend. Tyrin Greentree wasn’t made to walk the plank – he’s set sail in another direction. The club hopes Tyrin sails back next year.
See you at training next week.
