Sense of the stylish

Who are Noosa’s best dressed?
Five Noosa Shire fashionistas made the Top Ten list of best dressed people in this year’s 10th annual Sunshine Coast Style Awards.
Founded and directed by Jacinta Richmond the Sunshine Coast Style Awards began in 2008, with local residents being nominated (or self-nominating) to be named the Most Stylish Person on the Coast.
It was held for several years at Noosa Cinemas, attracting crowds of up to 300 people keen to see who the winner was and to watch a movie.
In 2014 it was expanded to include The Best Dressed List and the winners’ announcements were moved to the Sunshine Coast International Fashion Festival.
Individuals make the list when they have shown a constant respect for being well-dressed and well-groomed.
“The Sunshine Coast Style Awards have become the arbiter of style for the region,” Jacinta said.
“Good taste and style is in no way dependent upon money and it is far from purchasing fashion. You can be in fashion or you can have style. Everyone on the list has shown a love of fashion and excellent grooming but have they shown true style? The Style Stalkers have voted.
To determine the best-dressed, five style stalkers are enlisted to spy on nominees over a couple of months, watching them in their everyday lives. Jacinta selects the style stalkers – they change every year and they never know who the others are. A couple on this year’s list may or may not have been stalkers in the past.
“I can tell you that a national magazine fashion editor and national magazine beauty editor, both on holidays on the Coast, were stalkers this year,” she said.
Noosa’s best-dressed include Lucia Cumino, Sonja Wright and Adam Taylor of Noosa Heads, Callum Gordon of Pomona and Di Henshall of Noosaville.
They will compete for the winner of the style awards against Tamara Wrigley of Sippy Downs, Tanya Young of Mooloolaba, Shelley Oxford of Yaroomba, Trena-Jane Rowlands of Mooloolaba and Rowena Morris of Maroochydore. Winners will be announced on 21 October at the Sunshine Coast International Fashion Festival. For more information visit www.sunshinecoastfashionfestival.com
