Helping because they can

CHRISTMAS is about to get a whole lot tastier for local families doing it tough thanks to REAP Sunshine Coast, Peregian Shares and Cares and the Pool Cafe.
The three groups have joined together to collect food donations at the Pool Cafe until 15 December to then distribute to families in need throughout the region.
Peregian Shares and Cares co-ordinator Tarn Davies said there are so many people out there that just need a helping hand.
“We are thrilled to be a part of this initiative. It is a tangible way we can help bring some happiness to vulnerable community members over the holidays,” she said.
Pool Cafe owner Steve Bright has opened his doors on numerous occasions for worthy causes and said he is proud to be a part of the Peregian Springs food drive.
“Being a member of this community, I am proud to be part of this initiative – it is a small step but no-one should go without a meal at Christmas, let alone every day of the year.”
REAP Sunshine Coast co-ordinator Michele Lipner said pantry items are important food items for people in need, “whether these people are homeless or struggling to make ends meet”.
“While we distribute fresh fruit and vegetables to 18 local charities, community organisations and schools, pantry items can make a huge difference,” she said.
Residents are invited to donate pantry items such as cans of food for the Christmas hampers to the Pool Cafe, The Avenue, Peregian Springs, until 15 December.
