THE Electoral Commission of Queensland (ECQ) has announced it will conduct a State Referendum on Saturday 19 March in conjunction with Local Government Elections.
The referendum seeks approval from Queenslanders to change the term of Queensland State Parliament from three years to four years.
The Referendums Act 1997 provides that the majority of the members of Parliament who voted for and against the Bill have the opportunity to provide a statement of argument in support of their position to the Commission.
The arguments are available on the Commission’s website at www.ecq.qld.gov.au as well, copies of the arguments will be mailed to each Queensland elector in the next week along with the Voter Information Letter, which contains important information about the referendum and Local Government Elections.
