A COOROY teenager has revealed her nightmare scam experience online after she applied for a Noosa waitressing job posted on the Gumtree website.
Hannah Cavanagh spoke on coastal radio and posted her story on social media urging other female jobseekers to be cautious with their personal details on resumes.
Ms Cavanagh said she had applied for a “waitress / bar tending” position advertised in Noosa via the Gumtree Noosa website.
She said a mystery man phoned her almost immediately and at first he sounded genuine.
“Then it turned into a nightmare,” she said.
“He asked me to attend an interview at a motel, to wear a skimpy outfit, (and) to be prepared to ‘entertain myself’ for him and his friends.”
The man said he would pay her between $1000 and $5000 depending on the number of people she “slept with” during the party.
But when Ms Cavanagh said “no” the man said not to forget that he had all of her personal details and she could expect a visit.
The advertisement has since been removed and Noosa police are pursuing the man in relation to the incident.
Police statistics recently revealed a rise in the number of sexual assaults across the Sunshine Coast and Noosa, despite slight falls in crime rates for assaults and break and enters.
Meanwhile, Ms Cavanagh urged women to be extra careful.
“Please be careful when applying for jobs and supplying your personal details,” she said.
Her comments caused a social media storm with several short-sighted commentors blaming Ms Cavanagh, while others wrote messages of support and gratitude for her bringing this issue into the spotlight.
