LOCAL community groups have come out on top, thanks to recent government grants.
Member for Noosa Glen Elmes MP said he was pleased that several community groups in the Noosa electorate had been successful in receiving grants of more than $41,000 from their recent applications to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund.
The successful organisations include the Lake Cootharaba Sailing Club who received a grant of $5909, Noosa Bridge Club Inc. who received $17,500, Noosaville State School who received $9090 and Zonta Club of Noosa who received $8884.
“Community and volunteer organisations are the backbone of places such as Noosa, so it’s important that they get help to assist with successful programs and activities,” Mr Elmes said.
“I understand the importance of these groups and the difference their organisations can make in their communities.”
Local beneficiary Zonta Club of Noosa president Patricia Cussens said the group was delighted to hear about the success of the grant.
“The grant, which will be spent on a computer and ancillary equipment, as well as a camera, projector screen, laminator and portable PA will help Zonta to undertake its work to empower women through the provision of three bursaries; one for Indigenous Women, one for Women in Business and one for Women in Science,” Ms Cussens said.
“The grant will also help fund two secondary school bursaries to encourage girls to undertake aviation studies and will help to support many services and workshops in the area as well as fund awareness campaigns.”
