Chorale welcomes young opera stars

Five of Queensland’s rising young opera stars will be soloists with Noosa Chorale this Saturday when the choir presents an afternoon of baroque music at the J.

The singers, Annika Hinrichs (soprano), Cassandra Wright (soprano), Melissa Gregory (mezzo soprano), Ronan King-Rose (tenor) and Henry Pinder (bass) are graduates of the Conservatorium of Music and have had leading roles in operas as varied as Carmen, The Marriage of Figaro and Hansel and Gretel.

“We have been encouraging and fostering the careers of singers like these young people for more than 20 years now and some of them have gone on to have fabulous international careers,” Chorale president Gai Ramsay said.

“On Saturday we are featuring them in two baroque pieces, Handel’s Dixit Dominus, and Bach’s Magnificat and I’m especially excited about them singing with us and the Noosa Sinfonia Orchestra.

“Soprano Annika Hinrichs is only 23 and she has been a professional since she was 17. She has had principal roles in several operas and is a frequent soloist with the Queensland Choir, the Brisbane Philharmonic Orchestra and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra.”

Concertedly Baroque. The J Theatre, Noosa Junction. Saturday, May 26, 2pm. Tickets $35. Student concession $25.
