Potshots at Noosa migrants

By Margaret Maccoll

Web series, The Circle, written and produced by Felix Williamson (son of playwright David Williamson) which pokes fun at Noosa and those who migrate north from southern states has gone viral.
Starring Rebecca Gibney, the series which began appearing on the Doman website this month follows the journey of two couples from Melbourne and Sydney who relocate to fictional Hibiscus Circle.
Felix’s wife Lizzy said the real location for the screening was her mum’s home on Witta Circle, Noosa Heads, and the inspiration came from friends and family who have moved away from the city to a more relaxed lifestyle.
“So many of my friends are doing it now, moving up to the Sunshine Coast,” she said.
“Rory (Williamson) did the seachange. A lot of my friends are after a lifestyle change.”
Lizzie said Domain were branching into entertainment content and took up the series when Felix pitched the idea of the five-minute episodes to them.
“People want something that is quick and easy to watch,” Lizzie said.
She said her mum was initially concerned about the effect it might have on her neighbours.
“She was worried she wouldn’t have any friends left, but she loves it,” she said.
