Family fun laced with safety

NOOSA Council has combined family entertainment with safety during its Get Ready Friday campaign, a series of free outdoor family movies on the first three Fridays in December.
The Get Ready Friday campaign is designed to promote a serious message about getting ready for storm season at the same time as providing free family entertainment in the run up to Christmas.
As well as the movies, Get Ready Friday will also feature a four-minute video, created by Noosa Flexible Learning Centre students, about how you can get ready for the storm season.
You can catch family favourite, Home Alone, on Friday 4 December on the Cooroy rooftop and Friday 18 December at the Peregian Park. In between, Christmas favourite, Elf, will be screened on Friday 11 December at the Stan Topper Park in Pamona.
The Get Ready Friday campaign focuses on the key steps that families need to take to prepare themselves, their home and their pets before and during a disaster.
Noosa local disaster co-ordinator Martin Drydale said the Get Ready Friday initiative was all about people being aware of the risks around their home and neighbourhood and developing an emergency plan.
“We all need to talk with our families and friends about what we will do in a flood or a bushfire, if Mum or Dad or both can’t get home for one reason or another, and how we prepare for a cyclone or a bushfire,” he said.
If you can’t make it to one of the movies, you can check out the video at www.noosa.qld.gov.au. To prepare your emergency kits and plans visit www.getready.qld.gov.au for advice and resources.
