“Their name liveth for evermore” rang true as men, women and children gathered around the cenotaph to pay their respects in Tewantin early on Tuesday morning.
The Noosa Navy cadets and ex-servicemen gathered at dawn to remember the mateship, the agony, the courage and the companionship of war service.
Tewantin Noosa RSL Sub-branch president Mick Reid offered a haunting reminder to those of us waiting in the darkness to remember those who have fought and fallen.
“We await for the first rays of light and the warmth to push away the darkness,” he said.
The service came to an emotional Last Post and Reveille, sounded by the bugle of Elliot Rowely, and many remained to pay respects.
The sombre gathering was laced with pride and a sense of connection between servicemen, their families and those who have loved or lost.
Lest we forget.
