A little goes a long way

UP to 80 per cent of Australian households are involved in some kind of bird feeding. Dave from Noosaville Stockfeed and Pet Supplies asks the question, are we creating a generation of bird bludgers dependent on handouts?
While this topic is still up for debate, what is of concern for our local avian friends is the feeding of sunflower seed.
What’s the best way to feed native birds? To put it simply, moderation is the key and try to avoid black sunflower seed as a rule.
The oil content of Black Sunflower is quite high and along with over feeding the grey striped variety it can cause certain birds to suffer a nutritional imbalance.
Imbalanced diets often result in poor bone and feather development which may severely impede the animal’s ability to fly and reduce its life expectancy.
So like all good things, moderation is the key and also let them naturally forage for some of their own food source.
Drop into Noosaville Stockfeed and Pet Supplies to find out how you can best feed native birds.
